Working as a counsellor in the real world - 21st September 2024

This one day workshop will help you to navigate the pitfalls and challenges of working in the counselling industry.  This course aims to bridge the gap between what is taught in counselling courses and what knowledge is needed to work professionally in the world of counselling and psychotherapy.  Caroline is an experienced clinical supervisor who has worked with many training or newly qualified counsellors and this course reflects her experience of what newly qualified counsellors and psychotherapists need to know.

Topics included in this workshop are:

  • How to find paid work
  • What makes a really effective therapist? Aside from the modality you trained in.
  • How to deal with professional and ethical issues in the real world
  • Do I need membership/accreditation? A consideration of different options
  • Clients love psychoeducation - what are the most client-loved pieces of theory that they can 'take home' with them?
  • What CPD should I do?
  • How can I find a niche?
  • Networking with other therapists.

Please note that whilst this workshop may cover the basics of working in private practice, there is another one day course that focuses solely on this subject

Location: Beverley Counselling & Psychotherapy, HU17 0PY

Date:  Saturday 21st September 2024 9.30-4.00, including lunch

Cost: £105 (or £195 if both courses if taken in conjunction with each other - see also 'Setting up in private practice')

Caroline Hudson

Caroline is a BACP senior accredited counsellor and UKCP registered psychotherapist with over 20 years experience as a qualified counsellor. She worked for many years in a young people's counselling service in York, before setting up an initial private practice 10 years ago from a room in a G.P.'s surgery in Beverley.

Since then she has gradually built up her practice and established Beverley Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2018 as a multi therapist practice. Seven other therapists now work from this renovated therapy centre, offering an array of therapeutic approaches to clients of all ages, alongside clinical supervision and CPD workshops.

She is also a clinical supervisor working with local counsellors and counsellors in training and is enthusiastic about helping others to develop their careers in the therapy world.
