Self esteem is a complicated term. Often people use the phrase “low self esteem” to describe feeling worthless and lacking in confidence. They may feel that they are unlovable or never quite good enough, either in their eyes, or in those of people around them.
Your innermost beliefs about yourself, be they positive or negative, are formed early on and are often created from the experiences you have with those around you growing up. Therapy can help you unpick these learnt beliefs and enable you to decide whether they are helpful or not, leading to you being able to choose to believe that you do have worth and value as a human being.
